There are strong indications that screening of half of a yellow sun from Nigerian cinemas was halted directly by the presidency. A source told gistmaster that left for the censors board, they would have gone ahead to show it with the contents considered inciting.
According to the source, top officials in the presidency raised the alarm that certain contents in the movie could spark ethnic problems. The movie was said to be obviously sympathetic to the plights of the igbos durning the civil war.
Etisalat a telecom company in Nigeria sponsored Half of a Yellow Sun, where its brand ambassador, Genevieve Nnaji appeared in one scene.One of those who have seen the movie told Gistmaster, “Forget the bold picture of Genevieve on the cover of the movie. That poster is just for the Nigerian market. She only did one scene!”
