The kidnapping of Ebikeme , son of Ijaw leader and former minister of information ,Chief Edwin Clark came as a rude shock to many people who heard the news. This is because of the prominent roles being played by Clark in the Niger Delta.
Ebikeme has been released by the kidnappers but new twists has been added to why he was abducted in the first place. A statement from Movement of the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) stated that Ebikeme Clark planned it own abductio.The statement also stressed that N500 million was released by Delta State government from the security votes to the kidnappers in other to secure Clark’s release.MEND alleged that Clark shared in the money.
However, the kidnappers has come out to refute position of MEND.David Emevor the leader of the gang that kidnapped Ebikeme said he was kidnapped because they are jobless and the senior Clark has refused to get jobs for them. Emevor said Clark has the power to get them jobs but he did not.
Delta state police command arrested 7 people in connection with the kidnapping of Ebikeme.
